Why is it so hard for people to follow directions accurately? I'm not talking about the tough stuff like complicated recipes or installing Linux. I'm talking about simple things like step 1, 2 then 3. Does it not occur to them to listen and follow such instructions?
I think a part of it is almost an arrogance of intelligence. Something along the lines of "this is so simple I don't have to follow the directions" or "I already know all about this so don't tell me how to do it." A truly intelligent and thoughtful person would recognize the need for simple order and refrain from imposing themselves on every situation. I believe that is an important part of being civil, as in taking part in civilization.
Too bad it seems more and more rare these days.

Wrong Way #1
First post!
I never understand the compulsion to be the first post in comments. So what if you were the first person to post a comment. That doesn't make you cool or more special. Just speak your peace and move on.
